COMPACTORS : MAIN FEATURES AND SELECTION CRITERIA.
A compactor is a type of construction equipment, whose main task is to compact the waste mass on storage sites.
Since the main method of waste disposal is still storing them in special landfills, in order to limit the continuing growth of these objects, there is a need for waste compaction. Modern compactors do an excellent job of grinding and shrinking waste originating from households, industry, construction sites and elsewhere. At the same time, the market has a wide variety of models of this equipment, which allows finding a machine which most precisely fits your needs. For example, in small landfills it is expedient to use small compactors weighing up to 2 tons without an operator's cab. On the other hand, large landfills require usage of heavy equipment, whose tare weight can exceed 50 tons.
From the structural point of view, compactors are self-propelled vehicles having usually two axles with four rollers (heavy metal cylinders). The surface of the rollers can be coated with cross-shaped or V-shaped protrusions (cams), spikes and/or chipper plates. In many models, the front axle roller is equipped with cams, and rear one with plates.
Four-wheel drive bulldozers and wheel loaders with an articulated frame are often used as the basic chassis for the compactors. Heavy machines for the most part also have the working body in the form of a blade with knives, which is established beyond the wheelbase, perpendicular to the movement axis of the vehicle.
