Scrapers

Scraper is a kind of earth-moving and road-building construction equipment designed for layer-by-layer removal of soil. This family includes both trailed vehicles (the towing force is transmitted from tracked or rubber-tired tractors and tractor units) and self-propelled ones (strictly speaking – semi-trailed, as they work together with uniaxial tractors).

Scrapers are very widely used in the construction and road-building sectors to plan large areas, form dugouts and embankments. Various types of buckets mounted on these vehicles (single- and double-wing, telescopic, grab buckets) perform excellent job of horizontal removal of the layers with preset thickness of most common types of soils (however, in the case of extremely dense soils, it is often necessary to loosen the soil first). The removed soil is transported and discharged by dumping. Moreover, given the considerable weight of these machines (they can weigh up to 115 tons), they simultaneously contribute to efficient compaction of the soil.

Although in the case of necessity, the scrapers are capable of transporting the soil for, in fact, any distance, for the most part they are used at distances from 100 meters to 1 kilometer. In the case of smaller distances, usually bulldozers are used, and in the case of considerably larger distances – tipper trucks.
