A wheel asphalt paver is a kind of construction equipment designed for laying and preparatory compaction of the road surface during road construction and road repairs.

With the use of tipper trucks, the asphalt-concrete mixture is supplied into the hopper of the wheeled asphalt paver, from which it is delivered further with the use of screw and/or conveyor feeders. Uniform distribution, leveling and compaction of the surface is carried out due to the smoothing plate with an electric or gas heating system and special tampering bars.

For the most part, the wheeled vehicles are less advantageous in off-road performance and capacity than their tracked counterparts, but thry substantially exceed the latter in maneuverability and maximum speed. Moreover, the wheeled undercarriage, together with a lower own weight of the vehicle, is somewhat more gentle to the previously laid pavement than the crawler vehicles, when it comes to renovation or laying an additional layer.
