A forklift is a type of construction equipment, material handling equipment, which is designed to carry out storage and handling operations.

When referring to the forklift, one should understand that this term can be used in two different meanings. On the one hand, it is a kind of material handling equipment equipped with an arrow (often – telescopic one) or two- or three-mast hoisting system whose main working body is the pallet fork. On the other hand, this name is used as a rather general name for a huge family of special equipment used to carry out the full range of warehousing operations. The group of forklifts includes: side loaders, order pickers, pallet stackers, storage battery trucks, reach trucks and other such equipment.

Accordingly, the design and technical features of forklifts can vary considerably. In most cases, one deals with machines on wheels (usually - two axles with twin pneumatic or molded elastic or rubber wheels). Depending on the type of the loader, the vehicle can be driven by an electric motor or by an internal combustion engine (for obvious reasons, the first option is much better for indoor use).
